Bach Revealed: A Player’s Guide to the Solo Cello Suites
Cellist Selma Gokcen and distinguished American harpsichordist and Bach scholar Kenneth Cooper began their exploration of Bach's Solo Cello Suites in 2005. Fifteen years later their efforts culminated in Bach Revealed, an analysis of the inner structures of these important works.
Best used as a companion guide, assisting your own research into what is structural and what is ornamental, Bach Revealed offers two-part playing editions for the first time. Consisting of musical reductions, the guides explicitly look at Bach’s complex harmonies, setting out their structure whilst conserving the originals' spirit and beauty.
These reductions reveal Bach's rich layers of musical texture, his counterpoint, chordal elaboration, and ornamentation of the melodic line. They provide the implied bass line, the essential melodic line, opportunities for ornamentation, and the essential rhythmic character of the dance movements. A great resource to assist professional cellists, students and teachers studying these great works. Volume one (Suites I and II) is available now, with two more volumes to follow in the future.
