We are excited to announce the winning sheet music publications for the annual Presto Music awards! Once again there have been many outstanding new publications this year, but the winning products in particular have made a significant impression on us here at Presto. Some of our award winners have displayed superior presentation or fantastic critical insights, some have been extremely popular with our customers, and others have been chosen simply for their great content.

Keyboard Publication of the Year

Edition Peters; edited by Daniel Grimwood

This new Edition Peters Urtext edition is edited by Daniel Grimwood, one of the composer’s most highly regarded interpreters. His exceptional knowledge of the composer, the background of the works, and the care and obvious dedication to the project is what ultimately led us to select this publication as our winner. This is the only available modern Urtext edition of these important piano works.

Choral Publication of the Year

Oxford University Press; edited by Marques L.A. Garrett

A landmark collection of non-idiomatic compositions from the sixteenth century to the present day, providing a comprehensive introduction to an area of choral music that has been historically under-represented. This unique anthology seeks both to improve representation in the historical canon and to showcase the music of some of the best names in choral music today. We chose this collection as our winner for its original and exceptional content, as well as its aim to improve representation within the choral sector.

Education Publication of the Year

Edition Peters; Penelope Roskell

Penelope Roskell, author of the award-winning book The Complete Pianist, is recognized as one of the world’s leading exponents of a natural and healthy piano technique. Her series Essential Piano Technique provides a strong foundation of healthy technique, helping young pianists to progress rapidly and confidently through the early stages of piano playing. The Essential Piano Technique impressed us with its fresh, unique style, as well as its appealing and original content.

Deluxe Edition of the Year

Faber Music; edited by Colin Matthews and Imogen Holst

This facsimile full score edition of Gustav Holst’s The Planets, Op. 32 edited by Imogen Holst and Colin Matthews, is presented as a clothbound, full-colour, hardback edition with dustjacket. A beloved work in a true collector’s edition.

Film & Musicals Publication of the Year

Hal Leonard; Lin-Manuel Miranda

This collection features twenty-six defining works from Lin-Manuel’s career from In the Heights to Encanto, including, of course, selections from Hamilton. We ultimately decided to award this collection for the impressive contributions of Lin-Manuel Miranda to the contemporary film and musical industry, and for the ability to have his treasured works all in one place!
