Gramophone Choices,
Gramophone Editor's Choices - Awards Issue 2024
A 'magnificent addition' to the Elgar Violin Concerto's distinguished discography takes the laurels in the latest issue, courtesy of Vilde Frang, Robin Ticciati and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin on Warner Classics. Reviewer Geraint Lewis enthuses that '[Frang's] understanding of Elgar's kaleidoscopic writing is instinctive at all levels, as if from the violinist-composer's mind', and also notes that 'Ticciati ensures that Frang is able to converse and form a genuine dialogue with her colleagues at every stage and creates a perfect integration between them.'
Editor's Choices include period-instrument Bruckner from Pablo Heras-Casado and Anima Eterna, the late Lars Vogt's final recording, and a collection of orchestral works and songs by the winner of Gramophone's Lifetime Achievement Award, Michael Tilson Thomas.
