Nationality: Italian

Patrizia Ciofi was born in Siena in 1967 and trained at the Istituto Musicale Pietro Mascagni, making her made her La Scala debut as Violetta in 1997 under Riccardo Muti; she is particularly in demand for baroque repertoire, Mozart and the lighter bel canto roles.

Her discography includes Amor e gelosia (a 2004 album of Handel duets with Joyce DiDonato), Teresa on John Nelson’s Benvenuto Cellini, Combattimento (a Monteverdi collection with tenors Rolando Villazón and Topi Lehtipuu, which was Record Review’s Disc of the Year in 2006), and ‘a sparkling Susanna’ (Penguin Guide) on René Jacobs’s multi-award-winning Nozze di Figaro on Harmonia Mundi. Her key operatic roles include Marie in Donizetti’s La fille du Regiment and Norina in his Don Pasquale, Giulietta in Bellini’s I Capuleti, Isabelle in Meyerbeer’s Robert le Diable, Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Leila in Bizet’s The Pearl-Fishers (all available on DVD).
