David Cangelosi is an American tenor specialising in comprimario roles, most notably Wagner’s Mime which he has performed at theatres including the Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, San Francisco Opera and the Lyric Opera of Chicago and recorded for Jaap van Zweden on the Hong Kong Philharmonic’s Ring Cycle on Naxos. Before undertaking operatic training (initially as a baritone) at Boston University, he spent a decade working as a nightclub singer in locations including Atlantic City and the Catskills; early engagements as a character tenor included Goro in Madama Butterfly and Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte. As well as his Wagner roles, Cangelosi’s repertoire includes Beppe I Pagliacci, Squeak in Billy Budd, Bob Boles in Peter Grimes, L’Incredible in Andrea Chénier, and Toby in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd.
