Valer Barna-Sabadus was born in Romania in 1986, growing up in Germany and training in Munich. He works regularly with Parnassus Arts (the brainchild of fellow countertenor and entrepreneur Max Cencic), singing on the world premiere recordings of two operas by Leonardo Vinci: Artaserse on Erato in 2012 and Catone in Utica in Decca in 2015. His discography also includes Handel Goes Wild (a radical jazz-influenced take on arias from Rinaldo, Amadigi and Alcina) with Christina Pluhar and L’Arpeggiata, an album of sacred duets with sopra Nuria Rial on Sony (‘Sabadus’s smoky, rounded countertenor makes an effective foil for Rial’s bright soprano’ – Gramophone), and a disc of Mozart arias for castrato on Ohems Classics.
