Pavel Kolesnikov

Nationality: Russian

Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov was born in Novosibirsk in 1989 and studied at the Moscow State Conservatoire and the Royal College of Music; early successes included First Prize at the Gilels International Piano Competition, the Jury Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011, and First Prize at the Honens International Piano Competition the following year. His discography includes Chopin Mazurkas (shortlisted for a Gramophone Award in 2017), Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons (‘quietly distinctive’ – The Guardian), Couperin’s Dances from the Bauyn Manuscript (‘Kolesnikov flips from idiomatic ‘clavecinist’ to romantic pianist and back in the blink of an eye’ – BBC Music Magazine), and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, all on Hyperion.
