Alexandre Denéréaz participated actively in Swiss musical life, he contributed to the founding of the association of Swiss musicians in Berne. He created the musical plan for the great organs in the Lausanne Cathedral. Inspired by the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb by Howard Carter in 1922, Denéréaz composed the symphonic poem At Tutankhamen’s Tomb in 1925. The work was first performed by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under the direction of Ernest Ansermet in Lausanne in 1926.
