Peter Seivewright presents a disc of American sonatas for piano, headlined by the composition from Elliot Carter (who celebrated his centenary in 2008). Carter himself gave a glowing testimony following a performance by Seivewright in 1983 that he attended – describing it as “a most remarkable, breathtaking performance”.
Coupled with the Carter piece are works by two other highly influential figures, Miklós Rózsa & Edward MacDowell. There is no other version of the Rózsa listed in the Muze/Gramophone Classical catalogue.
Peter Seivewright was born in Skipton, England, in 1954. He studied music at Oxford and then spent three years as a post-graduate student at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, studying piano with Ryszard Bakst. Peter Seivewright has performed extensively as a recitalist and concerto soloist throughout the world. In addition he was recently appointed to the post of Founding Professor of Music at The Academy for the Performing Arts at the University of Trinidad and Tobago.
