About

David Greilsammer is Music and Artistic Director of the Geneva Camerata (GECA). With this innovative and creative ensemble, he will perform over thirty concerts during the 2013-2014 season, including concerts in Berlin, Paris and London, appearances at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad and Electron Festivals, as well as collaborations with dancers, painters, video artists and actors, in a variety of outstanding venues. During Geneva Camerata’s main concert series, David Greilsammer conducts the ensemble with an eclectic programme, featuring today’s greatest soloists, such as Steven Isserlis, Emmanuel Pahud, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Andreas Scholl, and Daniel Hope. Greilsammer has also served as Artistic Director of the Suedama Ensemble in New York, with whom he made his debut recording in 2006. The success of this disc was immediately followed by an exclusive contract with Naïve Records and three critically-acclaimed albums: a solo recital named “fantaisie_fantasme”, Mozart’s late piano concertos conducted from the keyboard, and a live concert in Paris with Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. In 2011, David Greilsammer signed an exclusive contract with Sony Classical, releasing two albums in 2012. Greilsammer has recently appeared with the San Francisco Symphony, Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, Taipei Philharmonic, Hamburg Symphony, Filarmonica di Torino, Bournemouth Symphony, and in the last season he has conducted the Israel Symphony Orchestra, Slovenian Philharmonic, Mulhouse Symphony Orchestra, Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra, and the Mexico National Symphony. In 2013-2014, David Greilsammer will be Artist in Residence at the Saint-Etienne Opera, and will also conduct the Milwaukee Symphony, Sarasota Orchestra, Haifa Symphony, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Kammerakademie Potsdam, Tromso Orchestra in Norway and the Meitar Ensemble in Tel Aviv. As a pianist, Greilsammer made his Tokyo debut in 2010 and appeared numerous times at New York’s Lincoln Center. He has appeared at the major American Festivals, such as “Ravinia” and “Mostly Mozart”, and has also performed at the Verbier Festival, Lisbon Music Days Festival, Wigmore Hall, Salle Pleyel, Zurich Tonhalle, Tokyo Suntory Hall, Beijing Forbidden City Theatre, and Shanghai Oriental Arts Center.

it’s a regular frisson to go from the classical strenuousness of the one to the Buddhist ear-tickling of the other. The disc has a definite spiritual ping.

Taken alone,Greilsammer's Scarlatti might appear too mannered, but here the contrasts create aural fireworks. Italian baroque and New York avant garde face up to one another like lion and tamer, with fascinating results.

Greilsammer’s playing certainly highlights and heightens the originality of the Scarlatti pieces...The exoticism of Cage’s prepared piano is an intoxicating complement to the Scarlatti...There are lots of surprises here, well worth looking into.
