The Klemperer Legacy

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Otto Klemperer‘s death, EMI Classics pays tribute to the incomparable conductor with the release of an extensive edition of 11 luxurious yet affordably-priced boxsets. After the very encouraging results from the initial releases, the January batch will see some absolute classics of the Klemperer catalogue (Brahms), some very rare recordings in the Mozart box - some of them finding here their CD premiere. With his strong will and uncompromising vision, Otto Klemperer was famously hard to please with regard to soloists, but he was nevertheless a fine accompanist who made some superb concerto recordings. This set brings together some of Klemperer’s legendary collaborations with great artists, including a beautiful account of the Mozart Horn Concertos with Alan Civil, powerful renditions of Liszt and Schumann concertos with Klemperer’s admired colleague Annie Fischer, and the illuminating Beethoven cycle with the inimitable Daniel Barenboim.
