This fascinating double CD release from the UK’s number one jazz label “Sleepy Night Records” is limited to 500 individually numbered copies worldwide.
The album features a full live show from 50 years ago, issued here for the first time. It is believed that the live show was from the 100 Club. The gig was organized to road test some of the tracks being recorded for the studio record, it featured Ferguson’s successful forays into the world of Pop instrumentals, taking on work by Elton John, George Harrison, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor and more.
The second disc is studio outtakes from the sessions for his classic 1971 album ‘Alive & Well In London’.
The outtake feature previously unheard studio versions of ‘Living In The Past’, ‘Stoney End’, ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ and ‘Eli’s Coming’.
The liner notes feature an exclusive interview with Keith Mansfield, the British composer and producer, who worked extensively with Maynard Ferguson.
Maynard Ferguson, who passed on in 2006, was a true one-off, with incredible power and technique on the trumpet. He was noted for his ability to play expressively and accurately in a remarkably high register.
