Austrian-born composer (1757-1831) Ignaz Pleyel was regarded as a famous composer of the time, having benefited from studying with Haydn and Beethoven, however many of his works remain obscure in today’s performance repertoire.Pleyel does, however, continue to be known today as a composer of didactic music: generations of beginning violin and flute students, for example, learn to play the numerous duets he wrote for those instruments.
