Händel wrote two versions of this work: as concerto for organ and orchestra, Op. 4 No. 5, and as sonata for alto recorder and basso continuo, Op. 1 No. 11. In the early 18th century, it was common practice to replace a solo instrument with another one. This arrangement is therefore equivalent to an original work since each note in the score is an original one by Händel except for the realization of the basso continuo, of course, though this, too, follows Händel’s original organ part.
