The guitarist Ansgar Krause has long been regarded as an experienced interpreter and knowledgeable arranger of Bach’s works, as is proven by his many editions in the "Edition Breitkopf" catalogue. In his preface to the Suite BWV 995, Krause convincingly justifies his choice of the key of G minor, which distinguishes his version from the usual guitar arrangements that are generally in A minor. Krause, who has tried out his arrangements in his own recitals and has recorded them on CD, succeeds in his attempt to approximate Bach’s violoncello writing, considering that this piece was actually based on a lute version.
