Suite for Chloë is a 4 movement suite for beginner clarinet duet. The first clarinet part is about Grade 1 to 2, but the second part, with its chromaticism and long phrases, is intended for a teacher or a more advanced student. There is a strong didactic thread running through the sections of the Suite, with "For Openers" requiring a decisive attack, fanfare style; "Metro Gnomes" demanding articulative skill and metronomic precision; "Smooth Operators" encouraging an efficient legato style, and "Best Foot Forward" stressing rhythmic drive (alla militare).
Several key and time signatures are represented with various accents, dynamics, metronome markings and basic performance directions, and the whole thing lasts for 2.5 minutes, often the length of a popular song.
