cravings of the line by Sidney Corbett is a 12-minute work for horn trio (violin, horn in F and piano) – a rather rare instrumentation for which Johannes Brahms with his Opus 40 and György Ligeti with his trio from 1982 created masterpieces of chamber music.
The title refers to the artist Henri Matisse and also points to the formal strategy Sidney Corbett pursues in this work. On the one hand, the horn trio is written in an uninterrupted flow, but on the other hand, there are small scenes within the inner structure, each with a different character. cravings of the line was premiered on 26 November 2016 at the Konzerthaus Berlin by Marie-Luise Neunecker (horn), Franziska Hölscher (violin) and Severin von Eckardstein (piano).
The score and parts (EP 14635) are available for sale as part of the Peter Contemporary Chamber Series.
