After studying flute at Trinity College of Music in London, John Sands returned there to teach and was Senior Flute Instructor at the Junior Department for many years. He was also course tutor at Wavendon with John Dankworth's 'All Music Plan'. As a freelance woodwind player he has performed widely, from classical recitals and recordings to London West End theatre seasons and shows, and toured Europe twice with the Diana Ross Orchestra. From his extensive teaching and performing experience, John Sands is well placed to write these jazz studies for a range of woodwind instruments including the clarinet. They bare out his conviction that, above all, the student should enjoy playing their instrument.
