According to legend, The Sirens had girls’ faces with birds’ feet and feathers. They were banished by Aphrodite to an island in the Aegean Sea where they sang their enchanted song, seducing passing sailors to their death on nearby rocks.
After Odysseus sailed past, the first mortal to hear them and live to tell the tale (he strapped himself to the mast of his ship and filled his sailors ears with wax), no one knows what became of them. There was only The Sea to hear their song and tell of their fate>
This little cantata explores The Sirens relationship with The Sea and juxtaposes the songs of some other sirens.
