This vigorous, rhythmic piece makes a good opener to any concert or service. An unaccompanied setting of a text by St Paul, its imitative contrapuntal lines result in a build-up of excitement towards the final exultant combination of the words ‘light’ and ‘Alleluia’. It’s a good challenge for an ambitious choir that can hold its nerve rhythmically. Written for the BBC Radio 3 Pilgrim Consort, it was first performed and broadcast from St Paul’s-without-the –Walls, Rome. It is particularly suited to Advent, Epiphany and Easter services.
The piece has been recorded by Sonoro, directed by Neil Ferris and can be accessed via YouTube or Spotify.
