Libretto by Pilar Mateos.
In a corner of the park, Bruno is painting on the floor. Doubting his talent and feeling like a gardener who sows in stones, producing nothing, - “I live in a silence where no one answers”. He meets with the two women in his life: Claudia, his wife, and Valentina, a lifetime friend. Job insecurity prevents Claudia and Bruno from having the child they want. One day Bruno starts painting the two friends together (
Las amigas) on top of the same work he is trying to sell. Valentina, in turn, cornered by economic difficulties and showings the first symptoms of her disease, confides Claudia that she has created an imaginary refuge to which they can go when distressed. After the death of Valentina, Claudia discovers that Bruno has painted over the portrait of
Las amigas protecting it only with a layer of varnish. Hurt, Claudia runs away from him and goes to the imaginary house to meet with the memory of Valentina. There she also meets her unborn child, which foreshadows forthcoming success for Bruno as an artist. Claudia must get Bruno to recover the painting of
Las amigas under
La foresta in order to fulfill their expectations.
First performed at Conservatorio Superior de Música de Tenerife. Carlos Javier Méndez (tenor).
