A Short, Slow Life was written for soprano Suzie LeBlanc and Symphony Nova Scotia, in celebration of poet Elizabeth Bishop’s centenary. I was attracted to the delicate natural imagery of this poem - in this case textures as much as sounds. Bishop spent part of her early years in my home province, Nova Scotia, so the scenes described have a particular personal resonance for me.
Commissioned by Suzie LeBlanc and Alasdair MacLean for Suzie LeBlanc and Symphony Nova Scotia; broadcast by Radio-Canada; winner of the 2012 Theodore Front Prize.
