The compositional framework was an early string quartet that I wrote in 1993. The ideas within the original work needed expansion, the voices needed to be heard. This piece is much larger, not only in terms of it being for string orchestra, but also in musical elaboration. The five movements represent differing modes of communication and instrumental (individual) distribution of melodic, harmonic and rhythmic material.
