The 4 pieces which make up Autumn Music are reworkings of music originally sketched for double bass and piano. Autumn is often said to be the season of mellow fruitfulness but it also produces extremes of weather from still morning frosts to destructive winds. For me, it also marks the end of summer and therefore brings with it a feeling of wistful melancholy. The four movements are marked Tranquillo, Tempestoso, Sognante (wistful) and Vivace.
