Syd the Spoon was written for John D Elliott’s lower brass group Brasso ProFUNdo as a sequel to “Fred the Fork”. It is in a lively 4/4 time but with the inclusion of triplet rhythms, which could be complemented with a spoon accompaniment. The theme is in the minor key with major version of the theme in the middle section. The piece contains cryptic tributes to a 1940s Big band leader. Some later thinking is required to connect the finale with a famous animator.
