Antonín Dvorák (1841-1904) composed his SYMPHONY No. 5 in F Major, Op. 76, in the summer of 1875. Originally published as SYMPHONY No. 3, it received its first performance at the Prague Zofín concert hall on March 25, 1879 under the baton of Adolf Cech. In 1887, Dvorák dedicated the symphony to German conductor Hans von Bülow, who had been a great supporter of his work during the 1870s. Due to the rustic character of the piece and its bagpipe and hunting horn allusions, scholarship has not uncommonly referred to it as a pastoral symphony. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.(1st d.BCl).2: 4.2.3.0: Timp.Perc(1): Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set).
