This new releaswe from the Fryderyk Chopin Institute presents W.A. Mozart's Requiem in transcription for solo piano by Karl Klindworth. Winner of the Van Cliburn Competition, Schubert Competition in Dortmund and Sendai Competition, Vadym Kholodenko is esteemed for his performances displaying supreme virtuosity, subtle expression and depth of sound. In the 2021/22 season, he was artist-in-residence at the SWR Symphonieorchester. He has worked with such outstanding conductors as Teodor Currentzis, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Kirill Karabits, Louis Langree, Andrzej Boreyko, Cristian Macelaru, Pinchas Zukerman, Krzysztof Urbafski, Yuri Bashmet, Thomas Sndergard, Ion Marin, Valery Gergiev, Dmitry Slobodeniuk, Lionel Bringuier and Kazuki Yamada, in repertoire that includes concertos by Brahms, Beethoven, Bartok, Scriabin, Rachmaninov and Busoni. He has recently performed with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Rotterdam Sinfonia (incl. at the Concertgebouw), Filharmonica Toscanini, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, symphony orchestras of Prague, Barcelona and Sydney, RTVE Symphony Orchestra of Madrid, Orquestra Nacional de Espaa and NCPA Orchestra of Beijing.
He has given solo recitals around the world, including at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, Wigmore Hall and St Luke's church (home to the London Symphony Orchestra) in London and Liszt Academy in Budapest, and also in Paris, Moscow, Bilbao, Brussels, Lucerne, New York, Washington, Boston, Japan and Singapore, as well as at the festivals in Aspen and La Roque d'Antheron, the SWR Schwetzinger Festspiele and 'Chopin and his Europe' in Warsaw.
His recordings for Harmonia Mundi have included Grieg's Piano Concerto, Saint-Sans's Piano Concerto No. 2 (Gramophone Editor's Choice), all five Prokofiev concertos, and solo works by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev. His disc featuring solo works by Scriabin received the 'Diapason d'Or de l'annee'.
Forthcoming plans include recording works by Chopin and Godowsky and also Rzewski's The People United Will Never Be Defeated(for Quartz).
In 2021 the Fryderyk Chopin Institute released a disc by Kholodenko and Alena Baeva containing violin sonatas by Karol Szymanowski and Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Szymanowski's Mythes.
Kholodenko was born in Kyiv, into a family with Jewish roots, and began performing in public at the age of 13, appearing in the US, China, Croatia and Hungary. He studied at Moscow Conservatory with the eminent professor Vera Gornostaeva.
